Good news from West OR LIVE this weekend in Dublin

, ,
I wasn’t sure whether to limit this sort-of post to Facebook or mention it here but seeing as it has extended to a post about what to do with your Saturday night if you are round the pale, I thought it best to collect all that information into one place.

I’m sure you are aware of John C. Reilly. John is known mainly as a comedic actor in mainstream films (Step Brothers, Walk Hard) as well as a serious actor in mostly indie films (Cyrus). However he is also a talented singer and instrumentalist. His music of choice is old-style country. John singed with Jack White’s label Thirdman records last year and has released two singles so far. He is currently touring as John Reilly and Friends. The friends consisting of Becky Stark (of band Lavender Diamond) and guitarist Tom Brosseau. If you’re curious to hear more from John about his love of the genre of gentle americana and country, there is a nice interview with some live songs below. The reason I’m saying all this is because John Reilly & friends is playing Dublin this weekend at the interesting venue of Dublin Unitarian church at 8pm. More information here.

My other reason for promoting this post to a full blog piece is to quickly point out your alternative choice of musical entertainment this weekend in Dublin is an impressive line-up of two bands that have been very popular on this blog; Stephen Young and the Union and The Hot Sprockets. Both are co-headlining a charity gig at the Workman club this Saturday with master of ceremonies being none other than Tony Fenton. Going to make the trek up to it myself.

Afterword: Finally if you want to stay on the skirts of the pale, Barry Gruff (man and blog) is hosting Nathan Conway and The River Valley Band with Paul McCormack & The Flying Fontaines at Flanagan’s in Newbridge. More info on that here. Photo: Third Man recordsPhoto: Stephen Young/ Facebook
